The Kansas City Comets started as the Detroit Lightning in 1979, the second season of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL). In 1980, they moved to San Francisco where they became the Fog. In 1981, they moved to Kansas City and became the Comets. In Missouri, they were a huge success on the pitch and at the gate. They folded in 1991, but their spirit lives on as the new Kansas City Comets of the Major Arena Soccer League.
