Municipal Stadium in Kansas City opened in 1923 as??Muehlebach Field. In 1937 it became??Ruppert Stadium, before changing its name again in 1943 to Blues stadium in honor of the AAA Blues that played there. However, another, better known team played there starting in 1937: The Kansas City Monarchs of the Negro American League. In 1954, when the A's moved to town from Philadelphia, the name was changed again, this time to Municipal Stadium. The Monarchs left in 1956 for Grand Rapids, but kept Kansas City in their name.
