Laurel & Hardy

Laurel & Hardy were one of the most famous comedy duos in history. Stan Laurel, born Arthur Stanley Jefferson in England, came to the U.S. in 1912 with a comedy troupe in which he performed. After the tour, he decided to stay and later joined the Hal Roach Studios in 1925, where he was a writer and director

Harlem, GA native Oliver Hardy began his career as a singer but later turned to comedy. He found steady work at a movie studio in Jacksonville, Florida. After that studio went under in 1917, Hardy and his wife moved to Los Angeles. He too found work with Hal Roach Studios, where Roach himself got the notion to put the two together. The chemistry was immediately apparent and the duo went on to become comedy icons.
