You can't get much more Detroit than naming your indoor soccer team after a motor vehicle. The team made its debut in 1994 as the Detroit Neon in the Continental Indoor Soccer League. The name was chosen because the team was sponsored by Dodge, who wanted to promote their Neon compact-car. In 1997, GMC took over sponsorship, and as such, renamed the team for one of their vehicles, the Safari minivan. The team played its home games at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
