World League of American Football (WLAF)

The World League of American Football (WLAF) was established in 1989 by America's top pro football league. It served three main purposes: One, it supplied the top league with talent and helped players develop. Two, it helped promote North American football in Europe. Three, it helped prevent anyone else from starting another spring league like the United States Football League (USFL). The WLAF kicked off in 1991. After two years, though, it folded it's North American teams and concentrated on Europe. Two of those defunct teams joined the Canadian Football League when that circuit expanded into the United States, though one of those clubs dropped out at the last minute.??
