The Syracuse Scorpions were members of the American Soccer League (ASL) from 1970 to 1974. After 1970, the team folded, but was re-born as the Syracuse Suns in 1971. The folded a year later, though. They came back for the 1973 and 1974 seasons before the ceased operations for good. Their home pitch was originally MacArthur Stadium, the city’s minor league baseball stadium. That stadium, however, But the burned down in May 1969 after the Scorpions had played just one home game. The Scorpions, as well as the Syracuse Chiefs baseball team, had to make new arrangements. The Scorpions played at Griffin Field for the remainder of the 1969 season.
