Established in 1931, the St. Louis Gunners were an independent football team that played the final three games of the 1934 NFL season after the collapse of the Cincinnati Reds football club. They beat Pittsburgh in their first league meeting but lost to Detroit and Green Bay, respectively, in the last two contests of the season. In 1935, the tea, opted to join the (second) American Football League, which folded after one season. They returned to playing as an independent team through 1940.
