P.O.C. stood for "Pilsner of Cleveland" not "Pride of Cleveland" as some mistakenly believe today. Pilsner Brewing Company, located at Clark Avenue and West 65th Street, made P.O.C. Bohemian brewer Wenzel Medlin founded the company in 1892. It was bought by Pittsburgh-based Duquesne Brewing in 1963, who continued to brew P.O.C., but instead called it Pleasure on Call. Duquesne went out of business 10 years later.??C. Schmidt & Sons then purchased all their brand names including P.O.C. Schmidt & Sons brewed P.O.C. until 1984.
