The Minnesota Moose were members of the International Hockey League (IHL) and played for two seasons in the Twin Cities. The team was founded a year after the NHL North Stars moved to Dallas, leaving the area without professional hockey for the first time since 1966. In 1996, the team was purchased by a group from Winnipeg, a town that had just lost its hockey team to Phoenix, and moved to Canada to become the Manitoba Moose.
