Portside was a an entertainment and shopping district in downtown Toledo. It opened in May 1984 to much fanfare, including parades on both land and water. Though it was a popular regional destination, it was unable to pull shoppers away from suburban malls. It closed in 1990. After sitting vacant for several years, it was reborn as a science center inn1997.
