KZEW, "The Zoo," debuted in the fall of 1973 after changing its call letters from WFAA, which first went on the air in 1947. Throughout the rest of the 70s and two the end of the 80s, KZEW was the rock & roll station in Dallas. It was home to such legendary DJs as John LaBella and John Rody ("LaBella and Rody"), George Gimarc, Charley Jones, Dave Lee Austin, John B. Wells, Nancy Johnson, John Dew, John Dillon, Doc Morgan and Tempie Lindsey. In 1990, the station flipped to soft rock and adopted the call letters KKWM.
