Before he became Johnny Fever, WKRP's most popular DJ had many air names.
Though set in the Tristate, WKRP in Cincinnati was based on Atlanta radio station WQXI, where show creator Hugh Wilson's friend worked. Nonetheless, the show is still close to the hearts of Cincy residents, as well as sitcom fans everywhere. It was taped in Los Angeles of course, though one episode, "The Airplane Show" from season 3, was partially filmed in the Tristate. In that episode, Les (Richard Sanders) reports on traffic from a World War I biplane. The pilot is played by Michael Fairman, Sanders' writing partner and the shopkeeper in the famous "Turkeys Away" episode.
