The Fort Lauderdale Strikers joined the North American Soccer League (NASL) in 1977. Their home was Lockhart Stadium which is considered to be America's first-ever soccer-specific stadium. In 1984, the team moved to Minnesota. Two subsequent, but unrelated, soccer teams have used the Strikers name in Ft. Lauderdale.
