Eliot Ness was a federal agent mostly widely known from the fictionalized portrayals of his life in the TV series the Untouchables??(1959-1963) and the 1987 movie of the same name. He became Safety Director of Cleveland in 1935 and ran unsuccessfully for mayor in 1947.
