The Columbus Panhandles football club was established in 1901. In 1904, they joined the Ohio League, before becoming charter members of the American Professional Football Association (later called the National Football League) in 1920. Along with the Dayton Triangles, the Panhandles played in the first contest between league opponents. In 1922, the team became known as the Tigers and played four more seasons before folding in at the conclusion of the 1925 campaign.
