World Football League

Size Guide
The World Football League (WFL) kicked off in July of 1974 as a rival to the established National Football League (NFL). At first, it seemed like it would be a serious rival to the NFL. After all, league founder Gary Davidson had already formed the American Basketball Association (ABA) to rival the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the World Hockey Association (WHA) to challenge the National Hockey League (NHL). While both of those leagues struggled, they played for several seasons. The WFL, though, folded in 1975 after a season and a half. Among the teams to play in the WFL were the Philadelphia Bell, New York Stars, Chicago Fire, Chicago Winds, Portland Storm, Portland Thunder, Houston Texans, Florida Blazers, Jacksonville Sharks, and Detroit Wheels.
