Speedway, Indiana is the home of the ??Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where the Indianapolis 500 and Brickyard 400 auto races are held. It was established in 1912 as a planned residential community and was incorporated in 1926.

The Pan Am games are held every 4 years during the summer before the Olympics, as athletes from North and South America compete in a variety of events. The 1987 games were held in Indianapolis.
